"Fast Eddie" Skopek, 58, was arrested May 5 following a traffic stop in Chicago, Ill. A gang investigator stopped Skopek after allegedly seeing him toss something from the driver's side window of his '92 Cadillac.

Officer Mathew Gena learned that Edward Skopek's license was suspended and asked the man to step out of his vehicle. Skopek reportedly replied, "Come on officer, I ain't a bad guy. Can't you cut me a break?"

The officer again instructed Skopek to exit his vehicle, to which "Fast Eddie" responded, "Would you take 40 bucks? I'll give you 40 bucks. Just let me go." According to the police report, Skopek was then advised that bribery is illegal and was again told to step out of the vehicle. He did, and was arrested on charges of bribery of a public official, and illegal transportation of alcohol -- the cup of ice and clear liquid smelling of booze that investigators found in the car's console. He was released on $20,000 bond.

Oddly, Skopek was apparently not charged with littering nor driving with a suspended license.

He ...um... doesn't look any too fast to us. More like "slow," as elementary school teachers like to say.

Sounds like someone is "assuming" that he did indeed graduate from elementary school.

$20,000 bond for attempting to bribe a Chicago cop? What, because a $40 bribe wasn't good enough?

Makes me wonder, though, as pointed out, if the "reasons" for stopping him in the first place were valid, why weren't those charges included?

To Mike in Dallas: even if the original reason for stopping him was valid, it would likely have been tough to prove. The cop might've just given him a warning. Why he wasn't charged with driving with a suspended license I can't imagine.
