Joynee Carter, 19, of Stafford, Va., got into trouble June 6 for showing police officers "an obscene finger gesture."
Officers say Carter ignored a detour through a parking lot they had set up around a vehicle accident they were investigating. She allegedly nearly struck one of the deputies with her silver Honda. When officers called to the woman, she allegedly gave them the finger.
Officers followed her for 8 miles as Carter refused to stop. During the pursuit she ran a stoplight, and when she did pull over -- in her own driveway -- she locked her doors and windows and sounded her car horn.
A family member gave police a key to Carter's car, and they arrested her for felony eluding, obstruction of justice, reckless driving, and running a red light.

A family members gave the cops the key to get her? Apparently they're tired of her crap too.

Back in my early days as Operations Engineer at one TV station, the anchorman on the 5:30 news was the on-camera guy, so naturally he was the "star" (and we'd better not forget it). Occasionally I had to remind him, never piss off the guy who can make you look bad on camera.
More to the point, there's a story about a motorcycle cop who was rushed to the hospital with an appendix attack. The operation was successful and he was recuperating fine in bed, but there was the most uncomfortable tugging sensation at the hairs in his crotch. Nervously, he raised his gown to see what was causing the discomfort and found three wide strips of ultra-sticky surgical tape covering most of his groin with, written in black magic marker, "Get well soon, from the nurse you ticketed last week!"
All I know is that I would not want to dog any emergency workers and later find myself in need of their assistance, only to discover that they remembered me.

Well...she certainly pissed off the wrong emergency responders. And if incarcerated, maybe the family members got a bit of a break from her....

Although this woman's conduct was really stupid, up here in PA just giving a cop the finger is not sufficient for an arrest.
In 2009, a federal judge ruled that police had violated David Hackbart's First Amendment rights when he was cited for flipping the bird at a Pittsburgh police officer. The guy was trying to parallel park when another driver blocked him - so he flipped the other driver of. Then he heard a voice say, "Don't flip that driver off!" It was a passing police officer, so Hackbart flipped him off too. The officer cited him for disorderly conduct and for violating a state law prohibiting the use of obscene language and gestures. The city said the citation was given in retaliation by the officer, not for "blocking traffic," as the city contended. The city eventually settled with Hackbart for $50,000.
Of course in this case, the woman did a lot more than flip off a cop. But if that had been all she'd done, and she was here in PA, the cop could do nothing to her.

And rightly so. -rc
