A 49-year-old Washoe County, Nev., man waged a six-year "domestic terror spree" on Washoe County citizens and law enforcement officers.
Over the course of six years, Gary Craig Rosales stalked District Attorney Richard Gammick, leaving graffiti death threats, including "I will kill Dick Gammick, the DA", and calling him to tell him that he knew his whereabouts and to threaten violence against him. He described details of other unsolved crimes of terror he was committing, including shooting randomly into people's occupied homes -- a total of seven different incidents.
Rosales also left graffiti messages noting details of law enforcement vehicles, congratulating convicted cop killers and encouraging further violence towards police. He spray painted "All you kids must learn to hate punk cops" at one Reno preschool and "Commit murder on cops tonight" on a trailer. If that isn't enough to faze you, he also fired a gun at a female janitor, who worked evenings at an office building, striking her in the leg.
He was caught after the FBI tracked him down through the use of a cell phone being used to make collect calls to Gammick and his office.
Convicted of seven counts of shooting into occupied homes, attempted murder, aggravated stalking and criminal anarchy, Rosales tearfully pleaded to Washoe District Judge Patrick Flanagan to "give me a break... this is unfair. I don't deserve this."
All together, now: "Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww!"
"Anyone could have been a victim... this was domestic terrorism," Judge Flanagan said. "There is no occupation I am aware of like law enforcement -- none -- where death, homicide and great bodily injury is accepted as an occupational hazard. These men and women wake up every day and put on their uniforms, not knowing if they will come home and see their loved ones and children, just because they are doing their job. When people target law enforcement officers, they target all of us," he said before ignoring Rosales' plea and sentencing him to the maximum term of 83 years in prison.

He's 49? Then why does he act and talk like he's 4? (Yeah, we know: that's an unfair slam -- on 4-year-olds!)

Collect calls from a cell phone? Haha. Kind of hard to reverse the charges when there are none.

Sorry, but you are incorrect. Such calls can be made by a cell phone without an account. No account, no billing to the cell phone owner, thus collect is the only way to make a call (other than 911 calls, which are required by law to be put through). -rc

Apparently Judge Flanagan is no relation to Father Flanagan, who would have said, "There's no such thing as a bad citizen; only bad cops (or DA's)."
