Nehalem, Oregon, man Gary Mortenson was stopped for an improper lane change violation and an expired vehicle registration.
He was taken into custody after a search of his vehicle recovered this:

an assult-style rifle and another firearm
a machete
a Samurai sword
knives
hashish
ammunition
a half-pound of marijuana
psilocybin mushrooms
digital scales
packaging materials and other drug paraphernalia
Mortensen was arrested January 12, 2010, for unlawful possession and delivery of marijuana, and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

By the look on his face, he still has enough brain cells left to realize he's in a heap o' trouble.

"Apparently none of the weapons are illegal. He was only charged with drugs crimes. How about a law that says you can have one or the other, but not BOTH? At least, not at the same time..."
I'm guessing that the weapons will be illegal for him once he's done serving his time. The quantity of drugs looks to be well into the "Intent to Distribute" range, so those drug charges would be felonies.

So, I'm terribly out of touch with drug nomenclature. I thought hashish and marijuana were the same thing, but they're listed separately in the inventory. What's the difference?

I agree that the drugs are bad, and he's an idiot, but why would they search his car if all he did wrong was "improper lane change ... and an expired vehicle registration"?? Oh, wait - since they didn't have probable cause they probably asked to do it, and he's an idiot, so he probably gave permission for them to search.

You're either 100% correct, or the drugs/paraphernalia was in obvious view. But either way, he's still an idiot. -rc
