Gene Edward Chambers, 80, was peeved at his neighbors in St. Lucie County, Fla. Chambers accused the neighbors of coming into his house at night and stealing his "Little Debbie Oatmeal Cookies". In all, he said, seven boxes of cookies were missing.
"He went to the residence and knocked on the door," the sheriff's report says. "When they didn't answer, he started hitting the door with [a] garden hoe."
The neighbors, frightened by the loud banging on their door, moved their couch to the door to block entry. The door was "damaged beyond repair," deputies say.
When a deputy on Sunday arrived at the scene in the 4100 block of John Cook Way, Gene Edward Chambers had a garden hoe raised above his head "approaching the residence."
Deputies checked Chambers' kitchen, and found five boxes of Little Debbies in the cabinet -- and a recept showing he had bought five boxes, not seven. "Chambers was mistaken thinking he had bought seven boxes," the report states.
Imagine the damage had they been boxes of Hostess Ho Hos snacks.
Due to the damage, Chambers was arrested on a charge of misdemeanor criminal mischief.

The offending little hoe:

He's not the first guy to be brought down by an overly fond attachment to his latest hoe.

Well, he could try the Twinkie Defense. In his case, it just might work.

As I am currently dealing with a relative who exhibits many of the same symptoms as the protagonist in this article, and who has called me a lunatic more times than I care to remember (Such hasn't kept this relative for asking for help in operating a PC, though). I think the comments regarding dementia might be plausible.

Little Debbie has oatmeal "Cookies"? I knew about the "Oatmeal Cream Pies." I need to try those cookies. Personally, I'd have gone a bit crazy if I thought someone stole my "Nutty Bars" or "Zebra Cakes".
