bullet  Puttin' Away the Ritz

Arrested for allegedly hurling his keys in the face of the valet who asked him to move his BMW, it looks like Richard L Grubman won't be puttin' on the Ritz in Boston, Mass., anytime soon.

Grubman is the senior managing director of Highfields Capital Management, which serves charitable foundations as well as other institutions. Apparently he missed the charitable attitude that comes along with the job.

On March 30, Grubman parked his car in a residential-only parking spot along the Boston Commons before heading into the Blu restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Towers. When a valet asked him to move his silver BMW, Grubman, like a responsible adult, allegedly began yelling obscenities at the valet before hurling his keys at him, "striking him in the upper lip area," the resulting police report says.

"He was excited and arguing with everyone," the valet manager reported. "He accused us of keeping his keys."

Hotel security later found Grubman's keys under another vehicle.

When the police arrested Grubman, he "began to yell and scream, stating he was being abused."

Released on personal recognizance, Grubman was served with a stay-away order, mandating he keep away from the hotel. He is also charged with felony assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon -- which Grubman apparently finds hard to believe:

Richard

And bankers wonder why the public hold them in such disdain.

If someone would have acted like Grubman did toward an outlaw biker, his car would have ended up at a chop shop, and Grubman might have been ratpacked in the bargain as well.

Wait, didn't he throw his car keys at the VALET and isn't it the VALET's job to park cars? I would have just parked his car somewhere else as he expected him to do. It would have just taken me about two hours to get to the parking spot to do that but at least it would be parked properly and I would provide directions so he could find it when it came time to leave.

@Bob in Illinois. Your suggestion sounds like a good idea, but it would have deprived us of the "shocked" mug shot of Richard Grubman. It would have deprived Richard Grubman of some well deserved Google hits.

PS. It is easier to repair a bad credit rating than it is to wash out the stain of a bad Google search.
