Reverend Kevin Gray, a Roman Catholic priest at Sacred Heart/Sagrado Corazon Parish in Waterbury, Conn., has been arrested.
Gray, a popular priest who said he had colon cancer, has been on medical leave from the church since April 15th.
Waterbury Police Captain Christopher Corbett says Gray, 64, had a double life. He used church money to stay at expensive hotels, buy clothing from labels including Armani, Saks 5th Avenue and Brooks Brothers, and dine at some of the priciest restaurants in New York, as well as to take care of a boyfriend or two.
A man that Gray met in New York's Central Park told police that Gray paid his tuition to Harvard Law School, bought him dogs and paid the veterinary bills, bought him a piano and paid for his lessons. When the man asked why Gray always paid him with checks form Sacred Heart, Gray told him he had won big cases as an attorney and had placed his life savings in the church account. And he's not the only one. Police say Gray paid college tuition and rent for another man as well.
When investigators asked how much he had taken from the church, according to his arrest affidavit, Gray said without hesitation, "About a million."
After an audit of church books, police and the Archdiocese of Hartford say it was closer to $1.3 million that Gray stole from his parish over the last seven years. He has been charged with first-degree larceny. He was arrested on July 6 and is being held in lieu of $750,000 bail.

We think maybe he has the "do unto others" bit backwards.

Pfft...as long as people continue to be stupid enough to supply money to religions that have that much money to be stolen w/o it being noticed until an audit, then why be upset? 1.5 million dollars would've went a long way to helping the people that are both truly faithfull & needy, but the 'crime' is that it was stolen....Ironic, much?

ome on, dude, have you never heard of miracle cures? "Somebody" saw what a hard working and faithful man the good padre was, and saw his public good deeds, and cured him of his cancer.
And the Padre did do a VERY good job of doing unto others. He did unto the parishioners, and he did great good unto those two poor men, whom he was giving, ummmm, "theological tutelage" unto.
I generally expect better write-ups from you on these matters. Did you slip up? Is my sarcasm dripping? (NO,Yes!)
I'm sorry to see this site go. You were performing a public service. Oh, well, maybe something will happen and you may return to it in the future. You did good, Randy. Heck, you did better than the good padre!

Yes, I think there's little doubt that the padre was "doing unto others", and probably then said "My turn! Do me!" -rc

I agree with Pierre, Ontario, Canada, entirely.
In our family we always say "Do unto others before they do unto you."
Now we must pray for the good father, that he might be forgiven by someone, hopefully not the judge.
