Patricia Ann Cox, 46, was distressed that her live-in boyfriend had been arrested in Lewiston, Me., and charged with driving while intoxicated (and after having been declared a habitual offender).

The next morning, the Bangor, Me., woman went to the Lewiston Police Department. In the department's lobby, she allegedly set fire to a poster on the wall.

"The poster burned and singed the wall," said Lewiston police Lt. Mark Cornelio.

When officers discovered the destruction, Cox had left, but a playback from lobby security cameras clearly showed the suspect and the lighter, so a search was started. Cox was quickly found -- leaving the county jail where she was trying to visit her boyfriend, Allen R. Dunton, 58, who was still an inmate.

"Obviously, she wanted to go to jail, too," Cornelio said.

Cox was charged with felony arson and booked into the same jail. Police say she wanted to be near her boyfriend.

The poster listed the frequency of the most common crimes and accidents. We'd tell you where arson ranked on the list, but the poster was completely destroyed.

One little trivia bit that the Museum staff enjoyed is the name of the Maine newspaper reporter who wrote this story: Mark LaFlamme.

It may be that she is a natural blonde. She was the one who probably drove him to drink. (Ah yes, The Devine Fulcrum is alive and well).

I never understood the logic behind people who commit crimes to be near loved ones. She sounds like a real loony.
