I thought one of the rules for gun safety was to always know what's behind your target. Pointing a gun like that with other cops coming up behind the runner doesn't seem particularly, uhh, optimal.

Maybe he was holding a taser -- are they held the same as a real gun?

---

Tasers can be held the same way; cop models tend to be "gun-like" in their grip. But it's not true that you can't use a gun when there's someone behind the target; "optimal" is right. One just has to be totally aware of where they're pointed and take it into consideration, positioning yourself so that if you do shoot and miss, you won't take out a friendly. That said, as you suggest it could be a taser, too.... -rc

This totally needs the Benny Hill music dubbed over it ;)

Reminds me of the great lines from "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid," when they were about to jump off a high cliff.
"Butch Cassidy: Alright. I'll jump first.
Sundance Kid: No.
Butch Cassidy: Then you jump first.
Sundance Kid: No, I said.
Butch Cassidy: What's the matter with you?
Sundance Kid: I can't swim.
Butch Cassidy: Are you crazy? The fall will probably kill you.
Sundance Kid: Oh, shit... "

Here's a slightly longer version of the event:

Bad bounce Bulletproof window foils courthouse escape (video)

Count the total number of officers that respond! Holy crap! How many officers does it take to subdue one person?!

It looks like a real gun to me. And it also looks like the door to the left is one of a pair (there appears to be one to the left) and the slight angle seems to suggest that they may in fact just be used to block the walkway off.

I suspect the door is a firedoor, most areas require fire doors between buildings, so a skywalk would have firedoors at both ends.

Pity he didn't make it through it would have been a Darwin award nominee for sure, if not a winner.
