bullet  Hard-Headed Guy

This is Travis Copeland, 19, of Zion, Ill. Copeland was appearing in court in Lake County on January 13, 2010, relating to charges of aggravated assault on a police officer when he saw an opportunity to escape.

He bolted out of the courtroom with bailiffs in hot pursuit. Being a young spry man he was outpacing them as he entered a skyway between the courthouse and another county building. The problem: there were deputies on the other side, so he was trapped in the middle. No problem! He tried diving through the window.

Unfortunately for Copeland, the glass was "bulletproof" and he bounced right off. Fortunately for Copeland, the glass was "bulletproof" and he bounced right off -- because if he had gone through, he would have fallen 30 feet onto the roadway below. At rush hour.

The best part? It was all captured on security camera video (see below).

In a plea bargain, prosecutors dropped escape charges, and Copeland accepted two years of probation on his original charge.

It looks like a real gun to me. And it also looks like the door to the left is one of a pair (there appears to be one to the left) and the slight angle seems to suggest that they may in fact just be used to block the walkway off.

I suspect the door is a firedoor, most areas require fire doors between buildings, so a skywalk would have firedoors at both ends.

Pity he didn't make it through it would have been a Darwin award nominee for sure, if not a winner.
