Hazel Summerall just wanted her son to stop playing a video game.
The incident occurred starting at about 10:00 p.m. on February 11. Her son, James Swan, was in a bedroom of her house playing "World of Warcraft" with a number of kids, but James was drinking and getting louder and louder, she said.
She asked him to stop playing the game, and he ignored her. When she pressed, she said, James grabbed her by the hair and threw her onto the bed. He then picked up his own son, she said, and threw him on the bed too.
James is 27 years old.
Summerall ran out of the room to call police, but she said James ripped the phone from the wall, threw her to the floor, and started to choke her. Swan's grandfather tried to push him off her, but couldn't -- so he grabbed a handgun and shot James in the head, police say.
Paramedics found an entry wound on Swan's head, but no exit wound.
Swan was booked into the Manatee County Jail, where he's being held for domestic battery, child abuse, and felony tampering with a victim. He was held on $40,000 bond.

It was not reported that Swan was hospitalized, so all we can assume is that because he was shot in the head, there were no vital organs affected.

I looked up felony tampering as I was also confused. Based on the description I am assuming he was charged because he ripped the phone from her hand when she tried to call the police.
A person commits the crime of "victim tampering" if, with purpose to do so, he prevents or dissuades or attempts to prevent or dissuade any person who has been a victim of any crime or a person who is acting on behalf of any such victim from:
(1) Making any report of such victimization to any peace officer, or state, local or federal law enforcement officer or prosecuting agency or to any judge....

There has to be some deep rooted hatred in that family for a grandfathers first reaction to be shooting his grandson in the head. What goes on in that house on a normal day to set a stage like that?
