Christina Muniz, 29, was ready for a fresh start and excited to follow her dream of moving to California to begin a new life.
The only thing standing in her way were her sons, ages 6 and 11. Police received a frantic call from the 11-year-old on June 12, saying that his mother was abandoning them and moving to California. Officers initially took the call for a joke, but when they arrived at the house in Surprise, Ariz., Muniz told police that she despised her sons and was leaving.
"The mother had every intention of leaving them; that was something she was trying to do,” said Sgt. Mark Ortega of the Surprise Police Department. “[Muniz] said she was sick of them, she didn't want to be a mother anymore and wanted to start over."
Child Protective Services (CPS) was called, and they inspected the house, which, they say, was filthy and littered with dirty clothes. The boys told authorities that their mother spent more money on alcohol than on food for them, and they were told to look after themselves.
"The living conditions were bad, but more than that was them being told that, 'I'm sorry I ever had you. I wish I had aborted the two of you'," Ortega said. "Those types of things were told to them constantly and they were just made to feel like less than nothing, but the funny thing is, all the way to the end they were looking for her affection."
CPS removed the children from the home and, as they were leaving, the 11-year-old tried to hug his mother goodbye. Muniz reportedly screamed at him to get away and punched him in the stomach.
The officer at the scene noted in his report how happy Muniz was that her kids were gone, and that she was excited to start her life over and follow her dream of moving to California to -- yes -- become a stripper.
Instead of the freedom she was so excited about, Muniz was arrested on charges including aggravated assault on a minor, and faces a number of other unnamed charges in court.
CPS is working to reunite the children with their biological father.

Muniz: wanted a warped sense of "freedom". The kids: got actual freedom. We hope.

In the movie "Parenthood", one person makes a speech pretty much like this (quoting from memory):
Similarly, any woman that can interest a guy with a penis, can become a mother. Becoming a GOOD mother is another matter.

There is help for the helpless. The church (universal) has a mandate from The GODHEAD to support the widows and orphans. That is NOT mandated to the "guvmint". Every time there is a story of this sort, the Church has failed. Sigh...

@Pastor Charlie in Wisconsin: Given the relatively recent horror stories in the press and media regarding child molesters wearing cassocks and clerical collars, I think more than a few people might consider that to be little or no better than taking children out of the frying pan (i.e., abusive situations at home) and putting them into the fire (i.e., homosexual rape).
