Robert Edmonds of Wadsworth, Ohio, was caught on tape launching into a pretty spectacular car crash.
Police say Edmonds, 28, was drunk in the early hours of June 27 when he hit an embankment in his Jaguar, caught enough air to clear a four-foot fence, just missed landing in a swimming pool, then blasted through another fence and into the club house of a housing development.
Surveillance video (included below) on the pool area at the clubhouse shows the airborne Jag crashing, then the driver stumbling out of the vehicle and leaving the scene.
Shortly after the collision, Edmonds called 911 to report his car "stolen".
"I think my vehicle was stolen from the Galaxy Restaurant, I walked home from there," he told the dispatcher.
"His clothing matched the description," Wadsworth Police chief Randy Rinke said, "we found some blood in the car, he had some injuries that matched up with that and his story about the stolen vehicle didn't really match up."
Edmonds was arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, reckless driving, and making a false report.
@Pierre: I will never forget one job I worked at where they hired a stoner as a computer operator for the 4 PM to midnight shift and he was conning other workers into doing his work for him.
FWIW, there are still some companies who do prescreenings on potential hires for relatively low level positions but their execs can't live without their three-martini lunches.
Add to the above the privately owned companies who hire relatives of the boss who either have substance abuse problems or are incompetent but are kept on to keep peace in the family.

The most interesting part to me is you can see him backing up to get a running start in the video - it's not like he missed a turn or something, this moron appears to have done this on purpose - though what purpose drunks have is often questionable.

The video shows him hitting a berm and going airborne, out of frame, before coming back in as he sails over the fence. There's no "backing up" shown. -rc

Back in antebellum slave days down south, a slave could cost anywhere from $900-$1,800 by 1860, and that was in 1860 dollars, not 2010 dollars. In other words, it cost a LOT to buy a slave. So I had a hard time believing that a plantation owner would spend SO much money, just to beat someone crippled.
And then I see what people today spend their money on, such as $75,000 cars, only to abuse, dog, and obliterate their investment with absolutely nothing to show for it, except their incredible, rampant stupidity.
So, yeah, throughout history it's always been about Too Much Money, Not Enough Brains, a proud history carried into the present. If I'd realized that stupidity paid so well, I'd have dropped out of school, smoked drugs, and beat my brains in at a mosh pit. Just to afford what these idiots have. (Then again, one has to look no further than most of our politicians to realize the validity of that statement.)
