A 19-year-old woman walking in a cemetery in Suffolk, Va., was shocked to see a car leave the road, drive up to her, and hit her -- apparently on purpose. The driver then fled the scene.
The assault's motive may have become a bit more clear when the car's driver, Patricia Ann Devine, 20, was arrested as the suspect. The unnamed victim used to date Devine's boyfriend, who is the father of Devine's 1-year-old child. The infant was in the car with her at the time, along with a second child.
The victim was taken to the hospital where she was treated for leg and back injuries.
Devine is charged with a count of felony hit and run, child endangerment, and unlawful wounding.

To err is human, but to run over a former rival is Devine.

If the driver were a guy he could get attempted murder.

"Unlawful wounding"? Is there "lawful wounding"?
p.s. Eileen, loved your comment.

I'm sure there is lawful wounding, just as there is justifiable homicide. -rc

Lawful wounding refers to such things as performing surgery, doesn't it?
