bullet  Deposit Slip-Up

Jesse McCabe was responsible for making bank deposits for his employer, MetroPCS. Authorities say sometimes, he never made it to the bank.

$18,000 was found in Mr. McCabe's closet at home -- 13 deposits that should have been made in August and September of 2009.

McCabe says he never meant to steal the money, he just hadn't made it to the bank yet. Sheriff's reports say that when his employer confronted him about the missing funds, McCabe went home and had his parents drive him to the bank to deposit the cash. He was arrested and charged with grand theft. He told police he never told his boss about the missing money because he had been drinking and using prescription drugs illegally.

This month, Jesse McCabe pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of petit theft. He was sentenced to a year of probation, 50 hours of community service, and a curfew. No restitution was included in the sentence, as all the missing money was paid back.

McCabe certainly looks relieved to have this all off his chest (or maybe he's still drinking and using prescription drugs illegally?):

Maybe we all need some of what he has (not!)

What's weird is it seems like a long time to hold deposits in his closets. Maybe he legitimately forgot due to the drugs. Not that I excuse the crime.

But most petty thieves spend money immediately.

Brad, there's a difference between legitimate and genuine... but yes, it sounds like maybe he genuinely didn't get round to making the deposits. I would assume that led to the reduced charge.
