It was prom night for Jessica Halter, 18, of Lorain, Ohio, and fellow promgoers complained to school chaperones that she was drunk. Principal Patricia Bahr and Assistant Principal James Rutledge took her into the hall and called for assistance from a police officer on duty that night.
According to a police report, principal Bahr and the officer advised her that they were going to call her parents to come pick her up. When asked if she had been drinking, she reportedly yelled, "This is my fucking prom, this is bullshit." Police say her speech was extremely slurred, she smelled strongly of alcohol, and was unsteady on her feet.
As Halter became more belligerent, calling school administrators names and kicking her legs, Rutledge asked for a blood alcohol test to be administered, since Halter insisted she had not been drinking. According to reports, Halter then stated, "Fuck this, I'm eighteen, I'm out of here." The officer told her she was not free to go. Another officer arrived with a portable BAC machine. She allegedly told school administrators, "You are fucking bitches, this is my prom, I'm not drunk." When advised that she was under arrest for underage consumption, she replied, "The fuck I am."
Halter was taken into custody after swinging a chair at officers and smashing her face into it, bloodying her nose. She thrashed about and after being handcuffed, let her legs go limp so that officers had to carry her to the patrol car. Once inside, she spit blood at an officer, and spit in the back of his car.
Halter was arrested on charges of underage consumption, disorderly conduct, assaulting an officer and resisting arrest. She was released from Lorain County Jail on bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on May 26 -- the same day her classmates will be receiving their diplomas.

She won't get her diploma anyway -- her English teacher now says Halter has "inadequate ability to express herself."

Not certain, but I thought she was very expressive (though not in the manner the English teacher would have preferred).

Does her court appearance mean her Valedictorian speech will be preempted? A real shame; her vocabulary alone is nonpareil! It would have been...interesting, to say the least! LOL

Well, prom IS a night you're supposed to remember, and I'm sure she will.
