This stunning obliviot is Albert Bailey, 27. Bailey and a 16-year-old accomplice allegedly decided to rob a People's United Bank branch in Fairfield, Conn. But they didn't just waltz in and stick a gun in a teller's face. Oh no indeed.
Instead, police say, the dumb duo called the bank and said they would be there in 10 minutes to rob them, and the bank was to get a bag of money ready -- $100,000 in large bills with no dye packs, the robbers instructed.
"You can't make this stuff up," said Fairfield Police Sgt. James Perez. "And then they actually show up as the police were rolling in. I would classify these individuals as, 'Not too bright'."
"They threatened to create 'a blood bath' on their phone call to the bank," said Lt. Thomas Mrozek. But no weapon was used in the crime.
The bank put together a bag of money while police were rolling, and sure enough the 16-year-old came in, grabbed the money, and ran out to the getaway car, where Bailey was behind the wheel, police say. Meanwhile, bank employees were on the phone to police, relaying the robber's description. Bailey and the boy were arrested before they could get out of the parking lot.
Bailey is on probation: he was sentenced to 7 years in prison for robbing a People's United Bank branch in Bridgeport, Conn., in 2003. On that occasion, he was also caught the same day.

It's hard to decide which is more amazing: that Bailey thought his plan would work, or that he was able to convince an accomplice it would work.

I have to figure that this trip to the slammer, they take education courses. Then, afterwards, another one on critical thinking. I guess they never learned to write a hold-up note. But they were nice enough to call for reservations.

Reminds me of a fellow a few years back who robbed an Auckland bank. He felt he didn't get enough money, so he called the bank (the next day, I believe) and told the manager he was going to drive by, and meet him in the street with some more money in a bag. He actually showed up!

As you can see, I live in CT. I read about this story when the first article came out (before they were able to identify the subjects). All I could do was "(8-O". I never would have believe anybody was THAT stupid until I read the article. Now I know for sure.

For those unsure, "(8-O" is apparently the same as =:-O -rc
