Jerry J. Stefani, 49, and his neighbor Douglas Weinberg, 39, heard something outside early in the morning on February 24. The two grabbed their guns and went outside, thinking there were intruders, say Escambia County, Fla., sheriff's deputies.
As they got outside they saw some men driving off. Both Stefani and Weinberg got into their own cars and followed. When the men they were following got stuck in the mud, deputies say, Stefani and/or Weinberg started shooting at them "in an attempt to stop them from running into the woods."
The three men running for their lives weren't robbers: they were delivering the Pensacola News Journal newspaper. The newspaper carriers said they ran because they thought the men following them were robbers.
"We were simply doing our job," said news carrier David Crittenden, 32. "We could have been killed over nothing."
Both Stefani and Weinberg were charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and both have been released after posting $15,000 bond.
But Crittenden is too spooked to return to work.
Stefani and Weinberg:

Wait: newspapers? You mean, these obliviots can actually read?!

You do realize, of course, that there isn't much difference between the FL panhandle and AL or GA?

The "Dueling Banjos" music playing eerily in the background should have alerted Mr. Crittenden and company that they were entering a bad neighborhood!!!

Obviously THESE TWO were not subscribing to the newspaper, which is why they didn't know that they are delivered early in the morning.
On the other hand, since when does it take three men to deliver newspapers? When I was a kid, I did it all by myself.
