bullet  A Steaming Pile of Trouble

Following a noise complaint about their loud party in Greeley, Colorado, partiers allegedly lit a newspaper on fire on the front porch of the neighbor who had complained. After extinguishing the newspaper, the neighbor, Wayne Pickens, who "assumed they weren't going to be that stupid," waited in the front yard anyway to watch for further retaliation.

Sure enough, he observed three University of Northern Colorado students in their front yard with a flashlight, picking up dog poop and putting it in a bag. When Andrew Donahue, 18, came into the neighboring yard and was allegedly about to light the bag of poop, Pickens pounced and held him until police arrived.

Andrew Donahue was booked on February 7, 2010, for investigation of attempted first-degree arson, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and possession of alcohol by a minor. "He was intoxicated," said a police spokesman.

Yeah, "Ding Dong" pretty well sums this one up.

If I ever have the opportunity to make punning a crime, I'll click the yes box. Once the law passes, I'll promptly turn myself in.

Surprise, surprise. Alcohol was involved. Is there ever a case like this when it isn't?

Well, I'm not sure of cases "like this", but sometimes I'm surprised when I see stories and alcohol is not mentioned (and probably should be), and in other cases I'm even more surprised when they test for alcohol, and find none. Apparently just plain stupidity does account for some criminal actions! -rc

Considering how often "he was intoxicated" comes up in these things, I think we should just take it as a given, unless the police specifically report otherwise. "He wasn't intoxicated," said the puzzled-sounding officer. "I just can't understand why anyone would do something like that sober."
