Joseph "Crazy Joe" Piser, of Gainesville, Fla., lost his beer. (All together now! Ready? "Awwwwwwwwww!")
He was angry about it, according to his friends, and called police to report that the friends had attacked and robbed him. Ten officers responded to the June 12 robbery report, according to Gainesville Police.
The resulting report states Piser, 47, first claimed one of the men punched him before stealing his quart of Bud Ice, then changed his story and told police that another man had punched and slapped him and then took the beer. Police say Piser had no visible injuries to help corroborate his story.
Piser's friends, naturally, had a different story. They told police that Piser had been drinking with them that night, but became belligerent and they asked him to leave. It was then that Piser lost his beer and called 911 from a pay phone across the street. (Apparently they still have pay phones in Florida.)
Piser who apparently had the nickname "Crazy Joe" before this incident, was arrested on charges of misusing the 911 system and knowingly making a false report. He is being held on a $20,000 bond at Alachua County jail -- all for a 40 oz beer that costs about $3.50.

We can think of a number of beers that we would be upset to lose -- but Bud Ice isn't one of them.

Please forgive me - I'm just a stupid snowbird. I thought that the U.S. gallon had 128 ounces in it, which makes a quart to be 32 ounces, not 40 ounces. A 40 ounce quart yields a 160 ounce gallon, which is a standard unit in the Imperial system (as is the 40 ounce bottle). In fact, in Canada, we call a quart a "40 pounder". Sometimes. Further, in both measurement systems, the ounce is the same size. Of course, up here we no longer use the Imperial system, but we don;t use the U.S. system either - we are (are you ready for this?) M E T R I C !!!

Sounds like Piser bought an extended vacation to the Florida state pen for $3.50. Heck of a bargain.
